We prepare the Federal Form 4868 requesting time extension to file taxes. This form must be sent to IRS on April 15, or before for most taxpayers. The extension is given for six months, counting from April 15. This means that the taxpayer who requested such extension, has until October 15, to file the actual income tax return.
Due taxes must be paid on April 15, to avoid any penalties, because there is no time extension to pay taxes. There are detailed0 rules on how to estimate the total annual tax liability, and how much should be paid by April 15. In order to avoid the tax underpayment penalty, form 4868 is required to be filled out.
The cost of preparing form 4868 will be applied to the full tax return preparation when you come to AAS Tax Services to do the return later on. Please remember, that we are a year-round office.
You should bring with you copies of the prior year tax return, and all available information about income and deduction related to the year for which the tax return is prepared. This will allow us to do the best estimate of your tax liability and determine how much you should pay with form 4868, if any.
States accept the Federal extension, so no separate forms are needed. However; states also require that due taxes be paid by the due date.
All returns are prepared in accordance with the applicable Federal and State tax laws and regulations.
